When I was a pre-teen, there were few things I loved more than going to the Starbucks down the street from my school and ordering a Grande Caramel Frappuccino. In my eyes, no drink made me feel cooler, both in temperature and in status. It was the perfect introduction to drinking coffee and eventually brought me to where I am today: enjoying a Starbucks shaken espresso almost daily. And, of course, the occasional Frappuccino for a nostalgic walk down memory lane.
Over the years, Frappuccino flavours have varied from classic options like Vanilla Bean or Caramel Ribbon Crunch to more creative concoctions, such as the Tie-Dye or the Unicorn Frappuccino. Well, we’ve all grown up and now, so has the Frappuccino. 2025 marks 30 years of the Frappuccino and Starbucks is celebrating with an elevated twist on this famous drink. Read on to learn about the Strato Frappuccinos, plus an honest review of the new flavours.

What is the Strato Frappuccino?
Inspired by the Italian word strato, meaning “layer,” the Strato Frappuccino features a creamy cold foam on top of blended versions of some of Starbucks’ most famous flavours. According to Susan Engdahl, a senior manager on the Frappuccino innovation team at Starbucks, the Strato Frappuccinos are “a modern take on a classic beverage, with layers of flavour and creamy texture that customers are craving right now.”
The three Strato Frappuccino flavours available are Salted Caramel Mocha, Strawberry Matcha and Brown Sugar. Here is my honest ranking of the flavours from worst to best.

Strawberry Matcha Strato Frappuccino
3. Strawberry Matcha Strato Frappuccino
The Strawberry Matcha Starto Frappuccino combines matcha, classic syrup, milk and is blended with ice before being layered with a strawberry cold foam. This flavour is so sweet and delicious. The creaminess of the strawberry cold foam is the perfect topper for the blended matcha. However, this flavour doesn’t feel entirely different or new compared to the others, and for that reason alone, it is at the bottom of my rankings.

Brown Sugar Strato Frappuccino
2. Brown Sugar Strato Frappuccino
The Brown Sugar Strato Frappuccino is a combination of coffee, milk and ice blended. It is layered with brown sugar cold foam and topped with a cinnamon dusting. If you are a fan of the Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso, there is no doubt you will love this Strato Frappuccino. It is sweet and has a deep and rich brown sugar flavour. I was worried this would be too sweet. But it was perfect and I can’t wait to enjoy another one this summer.

Salted Caramel Strato Frappuccino
1. Salted Caramel Mocha Frappuccino
The Salted Caramel Mocha Strato Frappuccino is a blend of chocolate and caramel (made with mocha sauce), coffee, milk and ice. It is then topped with a salted caramel cold foam and a drizzle of caramel. This one totally blew me away. Unless it’s a peppermint mocha around Christmas time, I am not a huge fan of a Starbucks mocha. But pairing the rich mocha with the sweet and salty caramel is something I can get behind. This Frappuccino has everything you would want in a summer drink. It is sweet, creamy, refreshing and full of flavour.

What else is new at Starbucks for summer 2025?
Earlier this summer, Starbucks brought back a few fan favourites for 2025. The Summer-Berry boba refreshers and the Chocolate Macadamia Cream Cold Brew returned, alongside the new Strawberries and Cream Cake Pop and the Egg, Pesto and Mozzarella Breakfast Sandwich.
The Cool Lime Refresher lineup also made a comeback in early July, exclusive to Canadian Starbucks customers. One thing is for sure: Starbucks is keeping Canadians fed and refreshed this summer.
