Looking for a great summer burger? This budget-friendly spicy tuna burger uses a pantry staple —canned tuna—and combines it with fresh cilantro, ginger and most importantly, sriracha for a spicy, salty and herbaceous burger that is perfect for burger season.
The bun gets smothered in spicy sriracha sauce that elevates the flavour of the patty by offering a mixture of tangy, cooling
yogurt, citrusy lime, sweet honey and of course, spicy sriracha. The burger comes together very quickly and cooks incredibly fast as well — it’s ready in about 30 minutes total, making it a perfect weeknight meal. And, with all the high-protein hype these days, each patty boasts almost 30g of protein. Any toppings of choice work well. We kept it simple with just a few lettuce leaves and an avocado.

directions

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Drain the tuna and place in a large bowl.
Place the finely chopped cilantro, green onion, minced ginger, eggs, sesame oil, tamari, sriracha and bread crumbs and mix well.

Scoop the tuna mixture into a ½ measuring cup, then place it into your hand and shape it into a flattened patty. It may be flaky and wet, so squeeze out excess moisture and place it on the baking sheet.
Drizzle a little olive oil over each patty to help crisp in the oven.

Bake in the oven for 15 minutes, then broil for 3 minutes, remove and allow to cool
slightly.
Meanwhile, whisk together the sriracha sauce in a bowl.
Assemble by placing a tuna patty on a bun, top with avocado, lettuce, any other topping you love and a generous amount of sriracha sauce.
