Eva Longoria: Searching for Spain
In 1603, Eva Longoria’s ancestor Lorenzo Longoria left Spain at only 11 years old, bound for a new life in the Americas. Now over 400 years later, Eva returns to her homeland to explore her rich heritage. Spain’s sun drenched plains, rugged mountains and dramatic seascapes hold an incredible history and a wealth of cultures, climates and produce. From the Phoenicians to the Romans to the Arabs to the Americas, Spain embodies 3000 years of diverse civilizations, all of whom left their indelible marks on the food culture.
In 1975, after 40 years of dictatorship, Spain awoke from the cold nightmare of fascist rule. In the years that followed, the country opened its doors to influences across Europe and around the globe, sparking a burst of culinary creativity which continues to flourish to this day. From farmers to fishermen, producers and chefs, a culinary revolution swept the peninsula, creating a wealth of innovative techniques, new dishes and the reinvention of old classics.
From dishes like the silky and complex Cocido Cantonese conjured by the ‘world’s best chef’ Dabiz Muñoz in Madrid, to gourmet barnacles harvested from the wild shores of Galicia and succulent quail braised in sherry from the sun-soaked Andalusian plains, Spain’s cuisine is a series of exquisite revelations. And Eva is determined to try everything on the menu.
